Thirteen days is the length at which Vietnam stops being a checklist. This one adds a cooking class in Hanoi, a full day for the Cu Chi tunnels and the city, and a night in Can Tho for the floating market — with free afternoons built in rather than apologised for.

Day by day

Day one

Arrive in Hanoi

Met and driven to your hotel, with the rest of the day free to adjust to the city's rhythm.

Day two

Hanoi city day

The Mausoleum, the Temple of Literature and Hoan Kiem Lake, then the Old Quarter by cyclo — markets, shophouses, and streets still named for the trade they sold.

Breakfast included
Day three

Cooking with a Hanoi chef

To the market with your chef, then a hands-on class in balancing the four flavours, and lunch is what you made. The afternoon is free.

Breakfast, lunch included
Day four

Aboard in Halong Bay

To the coast and onto an overnight junk, drifting past the karsts with lunch and dinner on board.

All meals included
Day five

Halong, then a flight to Hoi An

A last morning cruising and brunch aboard, then the flight to Da Nang and on to Hoi An.

Breakfast included
Day six

Hoi An old town

Merchant houses, assembly halls and the Japanese Bridge, a lantern you make yourself, and a boat on the Thu Bon.

Breakfast included
Day seven

Hoi An to Hue

An unhurried morning, then north via the Cham Museum in Da Nang and the Hai Van Pass — the best stretch of coast road in the country.

Breakfast included
Day eight

Imperial Hue

Thien Mu Pagoda, Tu Duc's mausoleum and the Citadel, ending at Dong Ba market.

Breakfast included
Day nine

Flight to Saigon

A morning flight to the largest city in the country. The afternoon is yours — colonial facades, coffee, or the night markets later.

Breakfast included
Day ten

Cu Chi Tunnels and the city

The tunnel network in the morning; the cathedral, the Central Post Office and Cholon in the afternoon.

Breakfast included
Day eleven

Into the Mekong Delta

The waterways at Cai Be, family workshops, lunch in a local home, and sampans through the narrow canals. On to Can Tho.

Breakfast, lunch included
Day twelve

Cai Rang floating market

Early to the market, then back to Saigon at your own pace.

Breakfast included
