A working Tay village of relocated stilt houses where the residents actually live, and where a night costs the community something back. Short, close to Hanoi, and among the more honest cultural stops in the north.
Day by day
Day one
Hanoi to Thai Hai
Up to Thai Nguyen with the ethnology museum on the way. A walk through the village, lunch prepared the Tay way, a craft session and a herbal foot soak, then music from the villagers after dinner. The night is in a stilt house.
Lunch, dinner included
Day two
Tea country, then Hanoi
A morning stroll, then out to a tea-growing family to watch the leaf worked by hand and taste it fresh before driving back.
