Limestone hills, terraced valleys and two nights in lodges you can hear the river from. Less known than Sapa, closer to Hanoi, and the walking is gentle enough for most people.

Day one
Hanoi to Pu Luong
South-west into the nature reserve, lunch on arrival, then an afternoon hike through the paddies to Du village.
Lunch, dinner included
Day two
Pu Luong to Mai Chau
A morning walk to Bang village among the terraces, lunch locally, then over to the Mai Chau valley.
All meals included
Day three
Cycling Mai Chau, then Hanoi
An easy ride through rice fields and White Thai villages, lunch, then back to Hanoi by late afternoon.
