Khmer country in the delta
The southernmost point of Vietnam
South until the country ends. Khmer pagodas at Soc Trang, the mangrove biosphere reserve at Ca Mau, marker zero at the cape itself, and Cai Rang floating market on the way home.
What stays with you
Day by day
An early start, breakfast on the road, then Som Rong pagoda at Soc Trang. Lunch, then on through Bac Lieu for the memorial to Cao Van Lau — whose song most of the country still knows — and Tac Say church. Ca Mau in the evening, with dinner on your own.
Out to Ca Mau Cape: marker zero, the flag tower, and a walk through the mangroves with the birds. Lunch at the cape, then north to Can Tho, with the evening free at Ninh Kieu wharf.
The floating market at first light, then Vinh Trang pagoda at My Tho and a cruise on the Tien river to Thoi Son — a pomelo garden, a bee farm, folk music and a sampan through the coconut canals. A candy workshop before the drive back.
