Sacred sites, rivers and three cultures
Three countries in under a fortnight, skipping the centre of Vietnam to keep the pace civilised. Laos at the start, Angkor at the end, and Halong and the Mekong in between.
Day by day
The Royal Palace Museum and Wat Xiengthong, Mount Phousi at sunset, and the night market.
A cruise to the caves and their Buddhas, with weaving villages on the bank and Wat Visoun after.
The dawn almsgiving if you wish, then two hours by fast train. Wat Sisaket, That Luang, the Patuxai and the COPE centre.
A morning flight, with free time on arrival.
The Mausoleum, the One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature, then the Old Quarter by cyclo.
An overnight cruise through the bay, with lunch and dinner on deck.
A final morning cruising and brunch aboard, then the flight south.
Coconut workshops, tropical fruit and sampans through the narrow canals, back to the city in the evening.
The Reunification Palace, the cathedral and the Post Office, Cholon, and the noon service at a Cao Dai temple.
To Cambodia, then the Bayon, the Baphuon and the Terrace of the Elephants.
The pink sandstone carvings and the tree roots, then a floating village on the Tonle Sap — Kampong Phluk or Chong Kneas, depending on the water.
An ox cart and a vegetable harvest with a farming family, lunch in their home, then Angkor Wat and sunset.
Free time until your airport transfer, or on to the coast.
